Because I haven't been able to connect 2 the Hunger Games blog I am writing here
Recently during my re-read of the Hunger Games I have really been looking about the Capitol, and the character Haymitch. I think that Suzanne Collins is trying to compare us Americans, who live in a wonderful country filled with rights and power, to the rest of the world. She is trying to send a message to us. We are live a gluttonous life style, and have a lot more luxurys than other less fortunate people. In 2nd and 3rd world countries they focus everyday one survival, whether is be from running from terrorist groups to finding enough food and water. On the other hand us Americans get a decent education, eat plenty of food, and even play things that would be unimaginable in other countries. Suzanne Collins uses the Capitol to represent the U.S., while the districts represent the poor countries of the world. In District 12 Katniss has to hunt everyday for food just to survive, while in the Capitol they have an excess amount of food, and even in one scene they throw up their food to eat more. Its horrible. Many people would say that Suzanne Collins is exagerating her point, but if you think about it, it's a reflection of us. This book is like a mirror, and when we look at the Capitol we see ourselves. A city filled rich people who adore their fashion statements, food, and their beloved Hunger Games; a form of entertainment that sacrifices the Districts lives. Katniss even says: "What do these people do beside the Hunger Games." This represents ourselves, looking to buy video games, clothing, sports equipment, the list goes on and on. Suzanne Collins may have over done the fashion aspect, but she definitely does a good job of showing how selfish we are. We have to look through other poor beings eyes, see what they have to struggle against each day, and we have to grow up.

Behemoth Book Report Due 11/9/11
Love is a very common part of books, and as if it wasn't complex enough, it just got more complex in my book. Dylan is a female... Pretending to be a male in the British Air Force, and recently the reader has just discovered that another female character; Lilit has a crush on Dylan. Alek and Dylan are very close friends, and Alek doesn'y even know Dylan is a girl. In my opinion they are very good friends, but if Alek discovered of Dylan incognito then Alek would feel ashamed of himself and also would start to avoid Dylan. Even Dylan says it, she says that if she revealed her secret, she was afraid that he would love her. And its true.
Dylan loves Alek and she knows it. She has embarassed herself at very awkward moments, such as one scene when Alek is saying that he loves the Leviathan, while she thinks he was about to say his love for her. Alek is eventually going to find out and the outcome might be a downfall.
Another thing that complicates this love triangle is the fact that Dylan is jealous of Lilit liking Alek, while at the same type her aggressive attitude towards Lilit makes her like Dylan, actually screwing her over in the end. Don't you just love love-triangles?

Behemoth book report Due 11/2/11
In Behemoth it is very disappointing that even though Alek has saved the Leviathan countless times, he is still treated like a foreigner, and even though everyone on the ship would be dead if it wasn't for him, he is still going to be taken prisoner. It annoys me very much, as Alek's actions were very caring and generous, and rewarded with the threat of being taken prisoner.
The only good people on the ship beside the Clanker crew is Dr. Barlow and Deryn. They have a good sense of right and wrong, and even though they can be executed for their actions, they still do what is best for not only themselves and their nation, but ALL of the nations instead. They are willing to try to end the war, even though they don't say it directly, and support Alek who can try to reunite the nations through peace, instead of warfare.
In conclusion I really think Alek deserves a lot more respect than he really gets. He can change the decisions of nations, and the people who help him really care about him and know his power.

Leviathan Book Report 2
In my book Leviathan, the two very different characters are finally meeting up. Alek, who is used to being safe, and in control most of the time has just gotten a smack of reality. He was captured by Deryn, the other main character who has been pretending to be a boy to be able to join the British. It really showed Alek a rich person, used to fair treatment, that he would have to work harder, and be more wise to rule over his country.
After Alek's parents death, and after his Grand-father dies, he will become the ruler of Austria. He doesn't listen to his elders, but is learning a lot to become fit to rule. He always compares himself to his Father, who always knows what to say, and always wants peace. He always compares himself to him, and in my opinion has very low self-esteem. I believe Alek will be ready to rule his empire, after he gets through his flaws.
I see improvement a lot on Aleks part, at first he thought that everyone was like him, and they were polite and royal, but once he met commoners they were very rude to him, and did not talk with a aristocratic tongue. He is also accepting the death of his parents and being very mature about it. In conclusion Alek has changed over the short months hes been a fugitive, and is turning into a stronger person.

Leviathan Book report due 10/17/11
Recently I have just started reading Leviathan, an alternative story-line of World War 1. One thing that I have been noticing is one of the secondary characters. His name is Count Volger, and is one of the main characters fencing teachers. They have a very strange relationship with the main character Aleksander, and I believe that he will play a role being on both sides of the war.
Count Volger seems to be looking for power. He does yell and bark at Aleksander, and they always seem like rivals. Even though he is Aleks teacher, I believe he is just keeping him alive because Alek was the son of a famous duke who was assassinated in Serbia. After Alek's fathers death, Alek got all of the power. I believe Volger might be using him just as the "Display" but he will really be pulling the strings instead of Alek. Also Volgar was sneaking through Aleksanders drawers, and even brought along the families fortune of gold. All in All I think that there might be something behind his normal fencing teacher.
Volger is very mysterious, and so far in the book is very commanding and more hidden. I really want to see what he might do later in the book, and I will try to tail his actions very carefully through my reading.
